Mi'kmaw Daycare Centre
The MCDC Daycare opened in 1994 to provide culturally appropriate early learning to off-reserve First Nation families. The need for the daycare was determined by the Royal Commission for Aboriginal People in an effort to ensure First Nation parents returning to university and the workforce had appropriate childcare for their children.
Currently the daycare is inclusive of all communities and typically has a 90% First Nation population enrollment rate. The Daycare Program provides early learning experiences for children 18 months to 5 years of age who currently reside in the HRM Urban Aboriginal Community.
We are staffed with 4 Early Childhood Educators who collectively have over 60 years experience in the Early Childhood Education system.
Traditional ways are encouraged through play, drumming, cooperation, sharing and communication.
We are open all year, Monday through to Friday from 7:45-5:30.
